Artist Statement:
"The themes of my art have varied
in response to my surroundings, whether
it is here on the Cape or in travel. Sometimes
my work is very abstract, but it is always
inspired by my relationship to nature. I
am interested in the rhythms, patterns,
colors and shapes of natural forms that
I combine in a layered way in my images.
Photography from my travels always offers
inspiration to me. Over the last several
years I have been to Costa Rica, Israel,
France. Italy, Mexico, Thailand and Spain.
These experiences and visual stimuli provide
content and form for my work.
"For the last several years I have
worked in a variety of printmaking, painting,
and mixed media techniques. I enjoy experimenting
with different processes as a way to think
through connections between disparate elements.
In addition, I have explored the relationship
of images and text. In some of my work there
may be a story, or fragment of words to
suggest memories or personal thoughts. I
guess all of this is my story or reflection
of who I am and what I see. I love to make
art; it is my adventure."
Sarah spends time each year printmaking
at Hand Graphics Studio, the College at
Santa Fe, or the American Indian Art Institute
in New Mexico. She creates monotypes (one
of a kind prints) and solar etchings, which
are etchings created with a light sensitive
plate. She creates Polaroid transfer prints
using photography, and has recently begun
working with encaustics (painting with hot
wax) to create mixed media pieces that combine
her various printmaking techniques.
Ringler has received awards for First Place
in Graphics from the Cape Cod Art Association
