Sarah David Ringler is a professor of Art at Cape Cod Community College, teaching drawing, printmaking, painting and Book arts and papermaking. She earned her BFA at the State University of New York at Buffalo and her MFA at the University of Massachusetts at South Dartmouth. In addition to the time spent teaching and pursuing a professional career as a painter and printmaker, she is also the Director of the Higgins Art Gallery at Cape Cod Community College where she has responsibility for staging seven exhibitions each year. Ringler is the mother of 3 young adult children and has lived on Cape Cod with her husband for thirty years.

Artist Statement:

"The themes of my art have varied in response to my surroundings, whether it is here on the Cape or in travel. Sometimes my work is very abstract, but it is always inspired by my relationship to nature. I am interested in the rhythms, patterns, colors and shapes of natural forms that I combine in a layered way in my images. Photography from my travels always offers inspiration to me. Over the last several years I have been to Costa Rica, Israel, France. Italy, Mexico, Thailand and Spain. These experiences and visual stimuli provide content and form for my work.

"For the last several years I have worked in a variety of printmaking, painting, and mixed media techniques. I enjoy experimenting with different processes as a way to think through connections between disparate elements. In addition, I have explored the relationship of images and text. In some of my work there may be a story, or fragment of words to suggest memories or personal thoughts. I guess all of this is my story or reflection of who I am and what I see. I love to make art; it is my adventure."

Sarah spends time each year printmaking at Hand Graphics Studio, the College at Santa Fe, or the American Indian Art Institute in New Mexico. She creates monotypes (one of a kind prints) and solar etchings, which are etchings created with a light sensitive plate. She creates Polaroid transfer prints using photography, and has recently begun working with encaustics (painting with hot wax) to create mixed media pieces that combine her various printmaking techniques.

Ringler has received awards for First Place in Graphics from the Cape Cod Art Association (1992) and the South Shore Art Center (1991) in addition to Second Place from the Duxbury Art Complex (1992) and Third Place in Graphics from the Duxbury Art Association Ellison Center for the Arts (2003).
