| Gayle
Olsson is the stained glass designer/artist
that will take you from imagination to a
finished piece of art. She has been creating
her own designs in various mediums for 30
years and has been a teacher at heart for
15 years, working with children in school
while she lived in SW Florida, and now with
her stained glass students in Sandwich.
After spending her early childhood in Hingham,
Gayle moved with her family to East Sandwich
to an old family homestead, the home of
her great, great grandfather, George Haines,
who had come from England in the 1800's
to be a glass blower for the Boston &
Sandwich Glass Factory. Perhaps inspired
by her ancestor, and after trying different
mediums for her art, Gayle discovered she
had a passion for the use of color and light
in glass and realized that she could create
her designs and bring them to life as a
stained glass artist.
Gayle's creations involve taking her original
2 dimensional designs and turning them into
3 dimensional works of art. She has a series
of glass works on display at the Salt Meadow
Gallery. They are the Glass Scarf Series
that are original designs from her 25-year-old
portfolio that contributed to her acceptance
at the New England School of Art because
of her flair in the use of color; the Looking
Glass Series that are 3 dimensional mirrors
of all colors and shapes; the Corner Stones
Series that are artistic accents perfect
for a doorway, entry-way, or to frame a
large window, that will fit in any decor;
the new Masque Series that are provocative
3 dimensional shapes to spur any imagination.
Her next series will be a Sunrise, Sunset
Series using photographs as her inspiration.
Color being the driving force in Gayle's
creative process, she began her artistic
career as an Impressionist painter and has
been in several juried shows. Many of her
paintings and stained glass pieces are in
private collections.
