David
McDermott, an internationally known glassblower,
has been working in glass for over 30 years.
He studied under master gaffer Robert Mason
at Pairpoint Glass, where he learned in
the tradition of the Scottish masters. He
is continually inspired to take on new challenges
in creating ever more complicated and spectacular
pieces.
McDermott has made special pieces for six
U.S. Presidents, Pope John Paul II, the
Empress of Japan, the Empress of Portugal,
and Henry Kissinger, as well as commissions
for the Bank of Scotland, the LPGA Senior
Tour, and the Television and Movie industry.
His work is also on display at The Metropolitan
Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in
Boston, the Corning Museum of Glass, and
the Toledo Museum of Art. Prior demonstrations
and teaching engagements include those at
the Rhode Island School of Design, Massachusetts
College of Art, and The Studio at the Corning
Museum of Glass.
Yukimi
Matsumoto, originally from Osaka, Japan,
graduated from Osaka Designer School in
1995, where she specialized in Production
Design. After working at Suwa Glass Studio
in Nagano and apprenticing at various studios
in Japan, Matsomoto came to the United States
in 1999 to attend the Corning Institute
of Glass.
David and Yukimi are also
accomplished artists in other media; both
paint, sculpt and draw extensively. They
now work together at McDermott Glass Studio
in Sandwich on Cape Cod where their rich
visual vocabulary is translated into stunning
and innovative works of glass.
David and Yakumi's Glass work ranges
in price from $22 to $600
