Andrea was born in Scituate, Massachusetts
and currently makes her home in Bourne on
Cape Cod. She developed an interest in art
as a child, and throughout her life she has
studied and worked in several mediums. As
a young adult, she made her living as a photographer
and learned techniques of air brush art to
correct and restore prints. With the advent
of computer enhancement in this field, she
returned to her childhood vocation of creating
fine original art in 1990. She began taking
classes at the New England School of Art and
Design, studied under renowned portrait artist
Robert Cormier, and was taken under the wing
of noted Martha's Vineyard watercolorist Millie
Briggs.
Andrea is often inspired by "a brief
instance that touched me with its quiet
revery, a resting place for my eyes and
mind in this world full of ticking clocks
and crowded thoughts. My best days start
with some memory from a dream or experience
of color and peace that stays with me until
it becomes a painting." Her style of
watercolor is complementary to the scenes
of southeast New England, particularly the
seascapes. "Simple line and pure color
are the things that most define my art.
Beauty is defined by a feeling, the way
light turns a corner or makes a color pop
in some way never noticed before. What I
wish to share with those who share my art
is quiet revery and rest from the bustling
world around us."
Andrea has exhibited in nearly every noteworthy
show throughout the South Shore and her
work is in many private collections in the
U.S. and abroad. In addition to her work
in the studio, she enjoys helping others
develop their artistic potential by teaching
watercolor, drawing, and pen and ink at
various continuing education centers and
art associations throughout the South Shore
and Cape Cod.
